Frequently Asked Questions

• Crate – get one that will fit your puppy when it is full grown. This crate will create a personal space for your dog.
• Food and water bowls
• Chew toys
• Collar - preferable one with identification and your contact information
• Leash
• Dry puppy food
• Training pads
• Bell on a string to hang off your door for potty training

• Have a crate or someone with you to hold the puppy on a blanket or towel.
• Do NOT stop at any rest areas or areas that other dogs frequent. If the puppy needs a bathroom break, find somewhere other dogs don't frequent.  At this young age, a puppy has very little protection from diseases. An area that is frequented by other dogs can contain an organism that can make your puppy sick.
• Try to be home with your puppy for the first 3-4 days, if possible.
• Puppies are not fully immunized until several weeks after their 3rd set of shots. Please stay away from common dog areas, and off the vet office's floor until then.

• Follow the worming schedule provided
• For feedings, follow the recommendations of the brand of puppy food you choose (usually based on weight, etc.) for frequency and amount

Puppy don'ts:

• Do not keep them on concrete
• Do not allow them to jump off of high areas (like back of a truck, top of sofa, etc.) until they are fully grown

It is best to give them high quality puppy food.  The amount of food and frequency of feedings should be determined by the brand dog food that you purchase.  It's usually based on your puppy's weight, etc.

Within three days of purchasing your new puppy, you must take them to a licensed vet for an exam. We advise you to find a veterinarian and make arrangements ahead of time.
